Spicy shrimp paste sauce with vegetables, fried mackerel and riceMen’s Fitness has published a list of healthy Filipino foods, along with helpful tips for cutting out calories: “swapping pork for chicken, shrimp, or fish; cutting excess fat off meats; and searching out lower-sodium broths and sauces.”

Among their top health picks are:

Pinakbet: Pork or shrimp with steamed veggies in fish sauce or shrimp paste.

Ginisang munggo: Mung beans with pork, shrimp, garlic, tomato, and onion.

Ensaladang talong: An eggplant salad with vinegar, peppers, tomatoes, and onions.
